How to choose cheaper, healthier alternatives to superfoods?

healthy diet

Keep in mind that healthy eating doesn’t have to make you go broke.  It’s true that for a long time there has been an argument “accusing” the cost of what’s considered to be a healthy lifestyle is high. Well, we’ve got some great news for you; eating fruits, veggies and high-in-plain protein products doesn’t have to be really expensive at all.

The key to having a healthy and well-balanced diet is to know what to choose and how to choose it. Going after big-name foods isn’t always the only way to make you stay healthy. Know that your diet should contain the perfect balance between carbs, proteins, vitamins, minerals and healthy unsaturated fats. Then, the next step is to find out which are the foods that contain the best version of these nutrients that will deliver you all the necessary elements to live a healthy life.

After that, knowing all the available alternatives for a certain nutrients means you can choose the ones that are affordable to you. Below, you can find a list with some of the most common healthy food replacements you can do that can deliver the same amount of benefits without costing you too much.

Replace water with added vitamins and other elements with the plain one

Keep it simple. Different fancy waters have been popular especially among fitness fanatics and athletes. The truth is, you don’t need any coconut water to keep you hydrated. If you’re really aiming to stay hydrated and replenish your body with the necessary fluids, drink the old plain water and different natural, home-made juices to achieve that. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an athlete or not. Keeping your fluids natural and simple is very important and always a good idea. And by the way, it won’t cost you much.

Replace kale with broccoli

Even though kale is an amazing veggie that is able to deliver some super important nutrients for our system, it isn’t the cheapest available alternative for you to choose. Kale costs. That is why, finding its sibling that can easily replace it once in a while, is a smart idea. Broccoli has shown similar benefits with kale. It is packed with important antioxidants, (just like kale), that help repair and restore damaged blood cells and also, keep your heart super healthy. Many studies indicate broccoli to be a better choice than kale. It contains more vitamin C and also potassium when compared with Kale and also, it costs way less.

Replace salmon with mackerel

We all know fish is a great source of many important nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids and also protein. We do also know that salmon is commonly known as the king of the fish. But, unfortunately, salmon is also one of the most expensive fish available on the market. One of the best options you can replace salmon with is the mackerel fish. It contains as much omega-3 fatty acids as salmon does and it is way cheaper. Choosing mackerel over salmon is something you should consider doing once in a while since purchasing salmon will cost you more.

Replace chia seeds with sesame ones

Chia seeds are often considered to be a great replacement of salmon as well. People that don’t quite enjoy eating fish, choose it as the best alterative available. Well, if you find salmon and chia seeds expensive (which they are), then, a great replacement to them are sesame seeds. They are rich in iron, zinc, calcium, etc. and the best part; you get to have all these nutrients with less amount of seeds than chia ones.
