The power of Avocado; How can this fruit contribute to your fitness goals

avocado benefits

When hearing about fats, all we can think about is eliminating them because after all,  fat makes us fat right?

Well, as far as science knows, there are some good fats which are essential, necessary and super healthy for us to eat. They are also not only beneficial for our health, they are also vital when we’re trying to lose the extra weight that has been bothering us for many years now.

Avocados are simply a unique and amazing fruit that should never be excluded from anyone’s diet. Well, avocados are like the homecoming queen of the fats competition. Even though avocado is a fruit, it contains almost 30 grams of fat. They have some proven powers to lower our “bad” cholesterol levels and also, avocados significantly reduce our hunger cravings.

How can avocado make us healthier?

The main reason why fat in avocados is so healthy, is because it contains the monounsaturated types of fat that are considered to be the “good” ones. They contribute in our heath in many different ways. These types of fats that avocados contain are proven to improve our insulin sensitivity and also, glycemic control, main factors that contribute in diabetes.

Did you know that around 80% of the calories in avocados come from the fat they contain.

Also, avocados are great sources of omega-9 fatty acids, which are proven to be one of the best elements to keep our nervous system healthy, and also, omega -9 contributes in lowering the cholesterol levels in our blood. Not to forget is the fact this fatty acid that avocado contains, aids in the absorption of fat-soluble antioxidants and vitamins from the foods we eat like for example vitamin E, K and A.

Only half of an avocado (around 100 grams) contains around 160 calories and many others vitamins and minerals such as:

Vitamin C: 17% of the RDI

Vitamin K: 26% of the RDI

Potassium: 14% of the RDI

Vitamin E: 10% of the RDI

Folate: 20% of the RDI

Magnesium

Manganese

Antioxidants

Fiber: 7 grams

Avocados and weight loss

Apart from the well-known health benefits of avocados, the way this fruit improves and processes the food we eat, makes it contribute to our weight loos goals too. This contribution comes from the feeling of being hungry. Most of the times, our body doesn’t need all the food we eat. Our brain mistakes thirst and other needs with hunger. That is why, we usually end up eating more than we actually need and as a result, the weight loos process becomes more and more difficult to achieve.

The fact that avocados fit perfectly well into a healthy diet, is undoubtable. There is not a single reason to believe that we should avoid this fruit. In fact, there are so many studies indicating that it is not only healthy, but also gives a great contribution to the maintenance of an optimal weight. The reason behind this benefits stands behind the monounsaturated fats that we previously mentioned. These fats appear to have some additional benefits when it comes to weight loss. For example,  the ability to increase the rate at which fat into our body is burned. Also, they significantly reduce the appetite and lower the desire to eat after each meal.
