Even though Kristina Vogel is now in a more stable condition after yesterday’s spinal operation, she remains in an intensive care in Berlin, German Cycling Federation said earlier today.
After Tuesday’s horrifying incident when Vogel collided with another rider while training in Cottbus, the Olympic and world cycling champion was immediately airlifted to Berlin for a more professional and intensive care.
The accident left her with some serious injuries suffering a broken collarbone and other spinal injuries after colliding at nearly 45 mph with the other rider.
“The operation went well. Kristina continues to receive intensive medical care. Her condition is stable,” a BDR official statement read.

The worst left behind?
On the other hand, Jorg Werner, Vogel’s manager, while speaking to the German Press Agency, said: “At the moment, it is not really possible to say where the journey is going.”
The UCI, Cycling’s governing body, said that fortunately, Vogel’s life was not in any danger and now, the worst is left behind.
“We are all shocked by what has happened to Kristina. She’s an outstanding champion and an ambassador for the discipline, for women in sport and for German cycling,” David Lappartient, UCI president said.
