Vuelta a Espana: Chris Froome adds one second more to his lead (Video)

Vuelta a Espana Chris Froome

Britain’s rider, Chris Froome, has officially extended his lead by one second despite the fact stage’s six victory went to Tomasz Marczynski.

Unfortunately, today’s stage didn’t go as planned for BMC’s rider, Tejay van Garderen who even though began the stage second in the overall classification, he got involved in a crash where he lost more time on Froome who initially was only 10 seconds ahead him. He is now in fourth place in the overall classification.

Now, second place is taken by Orica-Scott’s rider, Esteban Chaves who is 11 seconds behind champion, Team Sky’s rider, Froome, now aiming to become the third man in the cycling history to has ever won two Grand Tours in one season.

Froome’s group was able to finish 26 seconds further back. During an interview, he added:

“The guys did another amazing job today from start to finish. They were all over that race and I’ve got them to thank for still being in this jersey,” he said.

“Alberto [Contador] may have already lost time in the overall standings but I have to follow when he goes. He’s still a danger and has shown just how strong and tenacious he is. He will fight all the way for the rest of this race I’m sure.”
