Vuelta a Espana 2017: Chris Froome continues to extend his lead on today’s stage nine

Vuelta a Espana chris froome

Britain’s rider, Chris Froome, has officially extended his lead on this season’s Vuelta a Espana after getting a well-deserved victory on today’s stage nine.

Team Sky’s rider is now leading the overall classification by 28 seconds after performing a harsh attack since the first kilometer and held off Esteban Chaves to win in only 4 hours, 7 minutes and 13 seconds.

Currently, the Tour de France champion stands at a 36-seocnd lead over Orica-Scott’s rider, Chaves and is now one step closer to becoming the first man to achieve a Tour-Vuelta double in the last 39 years.

The other two to have ever achieved this double victory were the French greats Jacques Anquetil in 1963 and also Bernard Hinault in 1978.

Froome’s today win of the 174km stage that started from Orihuela to Benitachell, seems to have created a significant advantage for Team Sky’s rider over the rest of his Vuelta rivals.
