A couple of days ago, Tour of Britain’s fans witnessed a horrifying crash during stage 4.  The incident made several cyclists crash through the back of the window of a parked car.

The most injured one seemed to be Bookwalter. Organizers immediately sent him to the nearest hospital for proper medical care. According to a spokesman for the Tour of Britain, Bookwalter is currently in a manageable condition.

According to him, they are now investigating all the circumstances that lead to this dangerous crash.

“We operate a rolling road closure and cannot remove every parked vehicle on the race route. However we work with residents, communities and local authorities ahead of the event to ensure as safe and clear a passage for the race as possible” – he said.

“In this instance the car that was parked in a disabled parking bay wasn’t able to be moved before the arrival of the race. And as per our procedures was flagged by one of our motorcycle marshals to alert riders to an obstacle in the road.”

A ‘ridiculous’ incident

Tour of Britain organizers have already opened an investigation for the yesterday’s stage 4 crash. The crash made a group of passing cyclists collide with a parked car.

They admitted to have taken the incident very seriously. They’re now ready to find a solution that won’t put riders in such a danger again.

Among the cyclists who were part of the crash was Orica-Scott’s rider, Michael Hepburn who smashed the rear windshield. Soon after that, most of BMC’s riders such as Brent Bookwalter, Silvian Dilier, Ben Hermans and Joey Rosskopf, joined the collided group of riders.
