Tour de Suisse 2017 is officially over. Yesterday, the final time trial stage made the rider’s give a remarkable performance especially the BMC cycling team which managed to pull off an unusual one-two-three result.
GC overall:
1. Simon Spilak
2. Damiano Caruso
3. Steven Kruijswijk#TourdeSuisse #Congrats @katushacycling @BMCProTeam @LottoJumbo_road pic.twitter.com/T1YqKlbI5a— Tour de Suisse (@tds) June 18, 2017
Rohan Dennis from BCM was the one to win the final time trial stage while Stefan Kung finished second, just like in the opening stage last week with Damiano Caruso in third place again. Unfortunately for Caruso, his performance was not enough to depose Spilak from the winner position taking the overall victory by finishing in the fifth place on the final stage, leaving him in the second overall place.
The final results are clear: The overall Tour de Suisse 2017 winner is Simon Spilak from Katusha-Alpecin. He was the one to manage wrapping and collecting the best results among stages.
For Spilak, this is the second time to win the Tour de Suisse after his first victory back in 2015. He is now officially one of the world’s best long-race riders in the peloton.
On the other hand, for Dennis, the final stage winner, this could have been the ride he was waiting for to get the overall victory of the Tour de Suisse if it wasn’t for the crash he had to deal with during stage two, a week ago…The BMC rider now has to return back home with only two stage winnings, which after all, isn’t that bad.
