Connor Swift and Jess Roberts win British Road Championships Road Races

British National Championships

British National Championships has now two new winners and they are Connor Swift from the men’s team and Jess Roberts from women’s.

Swift, 22, was competing against a very tough group of riders including Ed Clancy and Mark Cavendish which were both fighting to take first at the 13-km long route.

“It’s a dream come true,” Swift said soon after finishing the race.

“There was nothing to lose. I did a big risk and it paid off. To have a National Championships as a first win of the year for the team is amazing,” Swift added.

“I knew everyone was tired towards the end, I was sitting on adrenaline. I knew I had to go as hard as I possibly good.”

On the other hand, in the women’s race, Roberts, 19, beat her main rival and Olympic gold medallist, Dani Rowe to finish only 1.5 seconds ahead of her while Ellie Dickinson took third place.

“I’m just so happy – I can’t believe it. I started crying as I crossed the finish line because I was just completely overwhelmed,” Robert, who also claimed the under-23 prize, said after the race.
