Tom Dumoulin from Netherlands just claimed his first individual time trial victory at the World Road Cycling Championships. This title came right after his Giro d’Italia victory back in May 2017.
“I can’t believe it, wow, it’s really amazing,” said Dumoulin. “I had such a good day I felt really really good. Then it started raining and I had to take the corners really slowly especially in the climb.”

Dumoulin’s best result in the Cycling Road Championships was when he took third place in 2014, and also the time trial victory his team, Sunweb, took last Sunday.
Even though rain accompanied riders throughout the whole yesterday’s race, damaging mostly the performance of the late starters, Tom Dumoulin was able to clock a time of 44 minutes and 31 seconds finishing a 31-kilometer long course in the Norway’s of Bergen.
Lack of commitment?
On the other hand, even though the double-Grand Tour champion, Chris Froome, was beaten, he didn’t seem disappointed by his Wednesday’s performance at all. His mood appeared to be great especially considering the fact he just ended his best season ever winning both Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana Grand Tours.
He obvious lack of commitment on the yesterday’s course made him settle for bronze. He finished the race 1 minute and 21.25 seconds behind winner Tom Dumoulin.

”He has been strong for a couple of years, riding at top level so it’s not a surprise,“ Froome said during a news conference. ”Obviously he had a fantastic season. He was by far the strongest on the road today, no question.
“In the last kilometer I was full gas but I could hear the crowd cheering behind me. So I looked back and I saw the Oranje jersey, I thought, ‘Wow, he’s flying’.”
“I‘m now looking forward to spending time with my family,” he added right before he left the conference to catch a plane back to Monaco, his resident city.
