Swimming: Triple Olympic champion Katinka Hosszu to be part of European Championships

This year’s swimming program will for sure be one of the most qualitative ones after the triple Olympic champ and four other Rio de Janeiro gold medalists will have decided to become part of Friday’s multi-sport Europian Championships swimming event in Glasgow.

Hosszu, aka Hungary’s ‘Iron Lady’ and three-time gold and one-time silver winner in Rio, is ow ready to once and for all underline her position in the sport of swimming as the best all-round swimmer in the history, especially after separating herself from her husband and also coach, Shane Tusup.

According to the official announcement, Hosszu, 29, will compete in both the 100 and 200 meters backstroke and also in the 200 meters individual medley. Her main intention is to grab a remarkable number of European golds, 30 to be precise, in both the long and short course.

An unexpected surprise

Everyone was surprised when finding out that the Hungarian champion, even though has won the last four 200m individual medleys at the Europian Championships, she said that she has decided that this time around, she won’t defend her title in Glasgow this Friday.

On the other hand, the home spectators have high hopes and will be counting on Asam Peaty. He is the British Olympic champion who will compete in the 100 meters breaststroke to add another gold on his already-won one, eight in total.

“It’s almost like a new lease on swimming for me, a new lease on my career, a new lease on me in myself,” said Peaty. “Ever since then I’ve trained and been so much happier, so much better.”
