Former British National champion and also Team GB rider, Sharon Laws, had passed away after being diagnosed with cervical cancer. Despite receiving treatment for over a year, sadly, there was nothing doctors could do to save her.

She died yesterday, December 16, being only 43 years old. The GB rider and national champion was first diagnosed with cancer in October, 2016.
This morning the cycling world lost a champion, a friend, a rider with a huge smile and a fantastic laugh. Sharon Laws passed away early this morning after her fight with cancer. Her mum Joy and her family have asked for privacy at this time.

Voxwomen’s Twitter account was among the first to issue a statement in Laws’ sudden death on Saturday, saying: “This morning the cycling world lost a champion, a friend, a rider with a huge smile and a fantastic laugh. Sharon Laws passed away early this morning after her fight with cancer.
“Her mum Joy and her family have asked for privacy at this time. RIP Sharon Laws 1974 – 2017.”
A long, fruitful career
Laws is mostly known as the 2012 British road race champion but she has also given an incredible performance at the national time trial in 2008 where she took the first place.

Her fans and cycling lovers also remember her for representing Great Britain in the 2008 Olympic Games which took place in Beijing. She rode the women’s road race supporting Nicole Cooke who was able to claim the gold medal.
