The tour of Flanders, aka De Ronde, is considered to be one of the monumental cycling events with over 100 editions on its belt. This season’s edition in Belgium is set to begin on Sunday, April 1. The race is part of the UCI WorldTour family.
Some of the previous winners of this prestigious cycling competition include Rik van Looy, Eddy Merckx, Fabian Cancellara, Roger De Vlaeminck and Tom Boonen.
Even though it is true that any race conducted over cobblestones is considered to be a real challenge for the riders, the Tour of Flanders is known to be the toughest of all. Especially since the pro riders usually face eighteen cobbled climbs which have been climbed by many high-profile names since the event’s first edition back in 1913.
