This season’s Tour de France is slowly coming to an end and riders have still a couple of more days until their individual time trial in Paris.
So far, the yellow jersey has been worn by Team Sky’s rider and four-time Tour de France winner, Froome’s teammate, Geraint Thomas and it seems the British rider’s performance has made everyone think that he is the best candidate to win the big title.
After losing more time in the last two stages, Froome is now slowly gaining a few seconds more, however, not enough to surpass his fellow rider and grab the jersey.
Most importantly, Froome classification so far (second place overall) means he has little to no hopes to win a Giro-Tour double even though after winning last month’s Giro, this has kind of been Froome’s main goal. Especially after winning Tour-Vuelta’s double last year.

Modern cycling
So far, in the history of cycling, there have been seven riders in total to have ever win the Giro-Tour double between 1950s and 1990s. However, since Marco Pantani in 1998, no other rider has been able to do so.
When asked about whether he still believes winning this double is possible in the modern cycling, four-time Tour de France winner said: “I definitely believe it’s possible. Maybe not this year!”
“This is my fourth grand tour on the run now, so to be in this position is incredible. I’ve won the last three and I’m still fighting for the podium,” Froome added.
This season’s Tour has not been so great for Froome who suffered multiple crashes and seemed a little off, especially from the way French fans has welcomed him.
Froome, along with his other team members, have been experiencing several punishable moments by French fans on the streets getting slapped and booed off the podium.
However, it was a solo attack during 80.3km stage 19 where he fired back in an impressive way making everyone believe that he might actually grab the double.
