Movistar reveals the new women’s team for next season. Here are the names

Just a few weeks after first announcing the creation of a new women squad, Movistar didn’t waste any time and has already found its first team members.

Among names part of the team, there are Jasinska who joins the new squad from Rally and also Biannic who comes from FDJ. Until now, there are eight women cyclists who have become part of the ten-member team.

The new Spanish team is now officially part of the UCI Women’s peloton for next season. Girls are now getting fully-prepared for 2018 when they have to sit alongside men’s WorldTour squad. They will use the same exact equipment and wear the Movistar blue jersey revealed earlier this season.

Currently, the team has six Spaniards, on French rider and a Polish one.  Mavi Garcia, Lourdes Oyarbide and Lorena Llamas come from Bizkaia-Durango. On the other hand, Eider Merino, Alicia Gonzalez and Alba Terual come from Lointek.

The six members will be joined by the 26-year old Aude Bianni. Her achievements include top ten spots in the World Championships and also Olympic Games. Malgorzata Jasinska who already has nine years of experience in the professional peloton will also be joining the team.

The left free spots

Now, there are only two free spots left that team directors have to fill. According to the Spanish squad organizers, two new signings will happen in the next few days in order to finally complete the professional team.

The number one reason why Movistar has decided to create its own all-female professional cycling team is because it wants to help develop the Spanish athletic world and create more opportunities for women who are just as good as men award-winning riders.

“It’s a medium-to-long term project that seeks to dynamise women’s cycling as a competitive sport, boosting the number of license-holders and ensuring that Spanish female cyclists have the best sporting means to compete in the international peloton,” Movistar announced.

Team directors also said that the new team will work with the Spanish Cycling Federation. The team will perform on several other projects in order to develop the women’s side of the sport.
