Luke Rowe to take a break from cycling after breaking his leg on a party

Luke Rowe injury

Luke Rowe will take a significant time off from cycling after breaking his leg on his brother’s stag party a couple of days ago. He has decided to miss the rest of the season after the incident while whitewater rafting.

The event left him with a broken fibula and tibia which will need quite a significant amount of time to set place. Rowe is currently recovering at his home town, Cardiff, after undergoing a surgery.

“My brother Matt is getting married and so I was away with family and friends for his ‘stag party’. On the first morning we went whitewater rafting. I jumped down into the water but landed in a shallow section on my right leg.”- Rowe said.

A serious injury

He also added to knew right away the injury he got was a serious one. “Being a bike rider you get in a lot of scrapes and you get used to injuries, but I knew straight away that it was a bad one.”

According to Team Sky’s performance manager, and also his personal coach, Rod Ellingworth, the 27-year old Welshman was officially set for quite some time off the cycling.

“An injury like this is a test of character for anyone, but character is something Luke has plenty of. “He’s a really important part of our team and, as a team; we’ll be right behind him throughout his recovery.”- added Ellingworth.

Even though the team is not sure when the right time will be for Rowe to return to bike, it looks he will most probably miss the 2017 season.

Talking about his comeback, Rowe added: “It’s early days, but speaking to the surgeon about the injury and my rehab gave me confidence so now it’s a case of working towards getting myself back on the bike. I’m determined to get back racing as soon as I can.”
