Kuala Lampur, Dec. 2017: Today’s Inaugural Tour de Selangor race has been tainted after a cyclist from a local team was caught doping. The rider tested positive for using a forbidden substance and according to some courses, he tested positive once he finished the third stage of the race from Shah Alam to Pandan Indah, held on October 19, 2017.
The race he was taking part belonged to the 2.2 status on the Asia Tour calendar. The five-stage event lasted from October 17 until October 21. In total, there were 15 teams from within and outside the country that took part on the event.
The last doping case in two years
“The test carried out found the rider to have consumed a banned substance which contained anabolic steroid which belongs to the S1 category, from the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list,” a source added.
Currently speaking, the national cycling association and the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (PKBM) have already issued a show-cause letter to the cyclist, who risks to face a four-year ban if he results to be guilty.
The last doping case has happened two years ago, in 2015. It involved the national track professional cyclist, Shah Firdaus Sahrom.
