After running down at McBridge, Corbin became the official Subaru Ironman Canada winner of the season. She was able to overcome a 7-minute deficit through a phenomenal 50-minute swim which gave her the lead of up to three minutes over Rachel Joyce and Karen Thibodeau.
Despite everyone thought this was going to be Joyce’s big day, especially after winning the Ironman Boulder a couple of months ago, and saw the Ironman Canada as her next success that would help her secure a place at Kona, it wasn’t meant to go that way.

Corbin’s advantage became quickly quite apparent. She was able to make her move while there were still 40 km to go on the bike, significantly reducing the deficit to nearly seven minutes and coming out of T2! Soon after, she took the first place and was leading the race while being 17 kilometers into the marathon segment.
Amazing skills on display
Corbin managed to show some amazing skills and strength when she finally crossed the finish line in only 9:17:12. Second place was won by Annett who was seven minutes behind the first one while McBride fought for the third place able to finish in 9:27:15.
During a TMC interview, Corbin said: “My whole plan of coming and racing here was I wanted to race a hard course where I could just race my own race. I set out with a plan to build my effort throughout the day and I was getting splits on the bike and Rachel was just in a league of her own. I got to the last 28 [miles] and just hammered as best I could. Then started running within myself and the splits were coming down to Rachel.”

She then added to have realized winning an Ironman is not something that happens every day. That is why she didn’t want to waste any opportunity. “It was a very challenging course, and it was so scenic. I’m really happy to win.”- added Corbin.
