Triathlon Results and Triathlon coaching blog Latest: Quick-Step rival Lotto-Soudal hires Tom Boonen as advisor

Feb. 23, 2018 – Tom Boonen signs as the new ‘tehcnical adviser’ and ambassador for Lotto-Soudal after spending his career as part of the squad’s biggets rival Quick-Step Floors.

After spending 15 years riding for Quick-Step Floors which is known to be one of the Lotto-Soudal’s biggest rivals in the Belgian cycling, Tom Boonen has decided to grab another great opportunity and move across the latter to Lotto-Soudal as the team’s adviser for 2018.

The new ambassador

Boonen’s new duty as a ‘technological advisor’ and also ambassador of Lotto-Soudal’s “Captains of Cycling” supporters program starts immediately. The new position comes only a few months after he retired from cycling at the age of 37.

He has admitted that after retiring at last year’s edition of Paris-Roubaix, he now plans to focus his career on giving professional advices before and after each race to the new team’s riders.

“My role for the Lotto Soudal team will be an advising role. I certainly won’t be looking over the shoulders of everybody,” Boonen said.

“But on the areas where I can share my experience, I will gladly do so. Of course I know a lot of staff members and riders, so I won’t need to adapt much to the team.”
