Team Sky has decided to play all its cards at this weekend’s Tour of Flanders event and is now bringing Tirreno-Adriatico and Volta ao Algarve champion Michal Kwiatkowski to help the team succeed at one of the most challenging races of the sport.
And who better than Kwiatkowski, who has the Amstel Gold Race (2015), Milan-San Remo (2017), Strade Bianche (2014, 2017), E3 Harelbeke (2016) and World Championships victories on his belt, can help the team give its best.
However the truth is that his past Tour of Flanders performances hasn’t been so impressive. The best position he has been able to score until now it’s the 27th place in 2016.
“It’s one of the biggest races of the year so of course everyone is really up for it,” Knaven, directeur sportif Servais, said in an official press release.

Thirsty for victories
Unfortunately, this season is yet to see the best from Team Sky which hasn’t been able to score any one-day victory so far. Despite its main rival, Bora-Hansgrohe, Sky has to also keep an eye on Quick-Step Floors which seems to have been playing its cards right.
“Let’s see how it plays out on Sunday and where the race is decided. It could be a bit earlier over Kwaremont, Paterberg, Koppenberg. But we’ve also seen a lot that the final two climbs have been decisive. Then it’s all about the legs so we’ll see how it is when we get there,” Knaven said.
“But I have a good feeling. The guys are ready and we’ll go for the win. But so will everyone else! It’s a tough battle but that’s why it’s so beautiful if you can win it.”
