Kona, Hawaii 2018: Meet the lucky athletes who are selected to join IRONMAN in October

2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the first IRONMAN event held on the shores of Oahu in Hawaii where 12 athletes decided to challenge themselves with a three-leg race which included a running segment, bike and swim. This was the first time when an IRONMAN concept became a reality with a selection of athletic challenges that had never been held before.

Today, that inspiring decision of those 12 amateur athletes has become a lifestyle for many and a real physical challenge for both pro and amateur athletes all over the world who are constantly becoming part of IRONMAN events and competitions.

40 commemorative slots

In order to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of IRONMAN all over the world, IRONMAN decided to open and make available 40 slots to the 2018 IRONMAN World Championship which will, as always, take place in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.

All athletes who decided to enter in any of the 2018 IRONMAN global events before January 14th, 2018, had the chance to win one of these slots automatically. Yesterday, Jan. 23, IRONMAN finally announced the 40 randomly selected athletes who have won a slot to the 2018 IRONMAN World Championship. Have a look at the lucky winners:
