VIDEO: Kangert leaves Giro d’Italia after horrifying crash into traffic island

Kangert

The Estonian rider has suffered yesterday, during stage 15 of Giro d’Italia, displaced fracture of his right elbow. The Astana team member was doing great, being quietly a consistent leader at the Giro’s races.

His team is still getting used to missing Michele Scarponi after he was hit by a truck which caused him an immediate death. That is why, this accident has left in shock many Astana fans and team members…

Kangert was in 7th place in the overall classification when he was suddenly involved in a crash that made him interrupt his Giro’s debut in the middle. During the crash moment, Estonian was riding within the peloton when he suddenly ploughed straight into a traffic island.

He closed the day in a local hospital after the strong crash just near the last 10-kilometre of the stage 15 back on Sunday.

The end of his season

There were his team members the ones that have admitted Kangert’s season is over. It seems the two arms fractures he got will force him to take at least a six-month recovery period.

On the other hand, the Astana team will continue the Giro with only seven members. They will have to fight hard and win as many stages as they can.  They should especially focus in handling the following stages of the third week which will take place in the mountains.
