Team Sky’s leader, Chris Froome is officially the winner of Velo d’Or for being the best cyclist of this season succeeding his biggest rival; Peter Sagan, who’s the three-time world champion. Froome was awarded his trophy on Tuesday while the 2018’s Tour de France route was being presented.

This year, british icon was able to win one of the biggest tours in the world; Tour de France, for the fourth time and also the other Grand Tour; Vuelta a Espana for the first time. He also claimed the third place on a world championship time trial a couple of weeks ago.

A great honor

This annual award is organized by a French publication called Velo Magazine and is nominated by the International Cycling media. Speaking about the title, Froome said: “It’s a great honor to have this trophy and I want to thank everybody who voted for me. It was a fantastic year; I will remember it all my life. It was a special season, and I have to thank a lot of people.”

Next season, Froome’s main rival will definitely be Tom Dumoulin as he targets the same record getting the firth title in next season’s Tour de France. Dumoulin won this year’s Giro d’Italia tour right before Froome claimed his fourth title of the Tour.
