UK, July 2017: Details to know about the ninth annual Ironman UK race expected to take place in Bolton in just five days.
Once again the Bolton’s annual Ironman race is expected to gear up for the largest Ironkids in the worlds that will take place on Saturday. It will be then followed by the Ironman UK competition a day after, on Sunday.
The race is expected to welcome thousands of professional athletes, amateurs and spectators from all over UK. This weekend’s main race includes a 2.4 mile swim followed by a 112 mile ride. Finally, the race will be closed with a 26.2 mile marathon run.
Sam Brawn, the Ironman UK director admitted the help people and communities give for this event is what makes it so special. “The support of the people and communities in and around Bolton is what makes this event special. We thank everyone for getting behind the event. We look forward to an exciting race and hope to see the renowned Bolton supporters around the course once more, cheering the athletes on.”- added Brawn.
Closed roads
In order to make sure the athletes will be completely safe when competing for the Ironman UK, several roads are expected to be closed. Mostly in the center of the town. This is the area when the Ironkids is planned to start and also finish. It is also the place where the Ironman finish line will be.
After admitting Ironman UK to be one of the biggest annual events in and also a strong highlight of both Ireland and UK race season, Mr Brawn said the road closures are a necessity. “With an event of this magnitude, certain road closures are necessary to ensure a safe race for the athletes.”- He added.
