It is official; the Whistler IRONMAN 70.3 and IRONMAN Canada will continue until 2020. The Resort Municipality of Whistler and Tourism Whistler have renewed the contract and they will continue to host the Subaru IRONMAN 70.3 and the Subaru IRONMAN Canada events until 2020.
The year when the Whistler initially won the right to host the Subaru IRONMAN Canada dates since back in 2012. The first contract was active until 2017. Now it renewed for another three years. The IRONMAN 70.3 Canada was added only in 2016.

This year, both events are taking place today, July 30.
Nancy Wilhelm-Morden, Mayor of Whistler, during an official statement, admitted to feel very proud. Especially since they’re welcoming so many IRONMAN athletes accompanied by their coaches, family and friends from all around the world.
“Hosting the Subaru IRONMAN Canada events in Whistler has generated approximately $42 million in economic activity over the past four years. Looking ahead, even though Whistler’s economy is currently thriving, the Subaru IRONMAN events help us to ensure our economic resiliency in the future. The Subaru IRONMAN Canada events also fit with our sport culture and build on our reputation as a world class destination for events.”- added Wilhelm-Morden.
What will happen in a few hours?
Today’s IRONMAN 70.3 and IRONMAN Canada are expected to welcome around 2,900 athletes! They come from more than 33 nations. Both events are expected to gather more than 10,000 fans and live spectators which will attend each race and cheer for their favorite athlete.

More than 2,000 volunteers will attend the event also. They are ready to help as much as they can to make everything go as planned. The Foundation of the IRONMAN has gathered more than $200,000 to in charitable giveback to charities and different not-for-profit organizations located in Whistler, Squamish, and also Pemberton.

She also added to be exited and looking forward to work with Tourism Whistler members, IRONMAN the RMOW. And finally, with communities of Whistler and Pemberton in order to continue building success around Subaru IRONMAN Canada.
