Cyclist dies while competing in Maters cycling in Melbourne

A cyclist has lost his life while competing in the Victorian Maters Road Championship in South-east Melbourne a couple of hours ago.

The athlete died after losing control of his bicycle which made him collide with a passing four-wheel vehicle.

 

The cyclist, age 50, was unable to survive the crash. He died immediately after the incident, on the scene, while the driver is assisting the local police with necessary inquiries.

 

 

The official statement

 

During an official statement that Cycling Victoria chief executive, Paul Jane, and also president Glen Pearsall gave, they added:  “devastated to learn of the loss” of the “talented Masters cyclist” and urged everyone to stay safe on the roads. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the cyclist,” – they both states regarding the matter.

 

They also urged people to try and stay as safe as possible when riding on the roads following the death of the “talented Masters, 50-year-old cyclist”.

 

For now, they are also focusing on the welfare of their volunteers and officials. Especially the ones that were directly involved in the incident in order to assist the police in their investigation.

 

Fortunately, the collision didn’t injured any one else. Today’s accident brings the total number of people died on different Victorian roads to 153. While last year, this number was 29 more.
