Team Sky’s man, Elia Viviani, was the one to win through the chaotic yet intense sprint of the EuroEyes Cyclassics Hamburg. Viviani crossed the finish line only a few seconds ahead of Arnaud Demare from FDJ and Dylan Groenewegen from LottoNL-Jumbo. They both ended up taking the second and third place respectively.
Despite the heavy rain that followed the Germany’s only WorldTour classified race, it was both Kamil Malecki from CCC Sprandi and Nikolay Trusov from Gazprom take off on a long flight. During the race, they were clearly able to build a lead of more than 5:40, right before the peloton reacted.

Fighting to take the lead
On the other hand, it was Silvan Dillier from BMC Racing Team, Truls Korsaeth from Astana and Patryk Stosz from CCC Sprandi Polkowice the ones to jump next even though the field didn’t allow them get far away, they still managed to hold and take a lead of around 25 seconds.
As the rain started again making the sun disappear, another strong and intense chaise of a group of 10 came into the surface. It included Greg van Avermaet from BMC team and Andre Greipel from Lotto-Soudal, who were unable to surpass the previous leading trio lead the race.

The race which included laps of a circuit course and also the day’s climb; the 700 meter Waseberg saw an intense 10km action that closed the day including many attacks and teams fighting to get their sprinters up front. However, during the last 5 kilometers the waters were calmed while Sunweb led the way into the final kilometer as Viviani crossed the finish line first.
