Yesterday, Cycling Canada announced the members of the team that will compete at the opening round of the 2017-2018 UCI Track World Cup. The event will take place in Pruszkow, Poland.
The six-women team is expected to wear the maple leaf jerseys. Two of them; Allison Beveridge and Jasmine Duering will get an pre assigned early start. They will head to the race in the mass start events at the Six Day London.
Both Duehring and Beveridge will compete in the Scratch Race, Tempo, Elimination, Points Race and Madison.
“Our focus for the upcoming international events is to give some of our women track endurance riders opportunities to gain experience. Especially in international competitions,” Jacques Landry, chief technical officer and head coach at Cycling Canada, said.
As many points as possible
“We will also be attempting to pick up as many points as possible in some individual events. These events are the ones where our international ranking has dipped slightly. In both the Six Day London events and the Poland World Cup, we will have a mixed bag of seasoned international performing riders. Some of the include Jasmin and Allison, as well as some riders newly graduated into the Olympic Performance Pool. They are Kinley Gibson and Ariane Bonhomme,” Landry said.
After the six-day event, Beveridge will then join Ariane Bonhomme, Kinley Gibson, Annie Foreman-Mackey and Maggie Coles-Lyster. They will meet in Poland to compete in the World Cup racing in November (4-5).
“As we have one more season before the Olympic qualification period starts, we want to be able to fire on all cylinders come October 2018. So it is important to continue giving development opportunities this season. Especially to riders that we feel they deserve it,” Landry said.
