Latest news comes from the newly-formed Polish team CCC. The squad has confirmed the offer they have made to this year’s Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas.
CCC WorldTour have just launched their most important bid so far in an attempt to make Welshman their main rider considering the fact Thomas’ contacts is soon to expire.
So far, Thomas has not renewed his contacts with Team Sky, leaving open discussions whether he will continue to stay on his squad or prove himself in a new cycling family where he will most probably lead the pack.
Big plans ahead
For next season, Polish team CCC is expected to merge with BMC Racing and create the CCC World Tour squad.
It was the sports director Piotr Wadecki who revealed the true intentions behind this decision to bid for Geraint Thomas.
According to him, they really want to build their next Tour de France squad around Thomas and that is why they have made the offer.
“I can confirm we have made an offer to him and we are waiting for a reply,” Wadecki said.
“I think that this will be explained during the Tour de Pologne. We already have one of the best in the world for classic races, that is Greg Van Avermaet, but our sponsor has the ambition to compete in the general classification at grand tours.”
“Geraint’s contract ends with Sky (at the end of 2018) and his position as the team leader is not certain.
“He won the Tour de France, but will he be number one? There’s Chris Froome who will want to win. With us, Geraint would already know in January that his goal is the Tour de France and we would definitely focus on him.”
