Breaking news: Triathlete dies in Ironman 70.3 in Cebu, Philippines

 

August, Manila, Philippines: Triathlete dies while competing in Sunday’s Ironman 70.3 in Cebu.

 

Unfortunately, the athlete wasn’t able to make it to the finish line while participating in the yesterday’s Ironman 70.3 Philippines.

 

Despite many people gave him the first help, it was a little too late for him to survive. He was found unconscious off the waters near the Shangri La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, the location where the Ironman 70.3 Philippines started on Sunday morning.

 

The chief of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, Senior Inspector Rommel Cabagnot, was the one to confirm to ABS-CBN News triathlete’s death at around 8:45 a.m.

 

Ironman 70.3 organizers gave also their declaration regarding the matter and how the incident unfolded. “He required medical attention during the swim portion of Sunday’s race. He was properly transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated. Our condolences go out to the athlete’s family and friends, whom we will continue to support.”- they added.

 

 

Second incident of the day

 

Meanwhile, the PO2 triathlete, Brian Guillen from Tribu Lapu-Lapu Team 2 collapsed only a few meters away from the finish line. He was trying to secure the second place when organizers saw him collapse. Then, they immediately sent him to the Chong Hua Hospital. He is currently getting all the necessary medical attention.
