Lakesman triathlon is fairly new. It was first introduced and organized last year. It’s main intention is to give all triathletes the opportunity to compete in a long-distance triathlon. It takes place in the heart of Lake District in England.
It seems this event’s impact has been quite big. Especially since it has now officially attracted more than 400 triathletes that are ready to compete. The national and also international popularity Lakesman triathlon achieved was directly reflected on the fact it won an award for being one of the UK’s top 5 triathlon events.

Last year, the event was able to attract more than 10,000 live spectators. It brought to the local economy more than 2 million pounds.
This year’s race
Lakesman Triathlon 2017 will take place on Sunday, June 18. It will start early in the morning, at 6 am. It contains a 2.4 mile swim in Derwentwater. Then after the swim, triathletes will undertake a 112 mile ride in the West Cumbria before arriving at the 26.2 mile run route.
Marie Whitehead, the event director for CN Events and The Lakesman admitted they were super exited to be able to welcome athletes from all over the UK to Keswick to take part in a fantastic race located in the heart of the Lake District.
She also said: “This event showcases what the county, and in particular Allerdale has to offer the visitor, the athlete and the spectator, and the whole teams are ready to give everyone a great Cumbrian welcome. For people who want to spectate there are many points along the bike route and the run route where the athletes would appreciate support. But if you want to be at the start or finish, it all takes place at Theatre By The Lake.”
Despite the fact there are more than 300 volunteers that will interact with race organizers to help triathletes go to the finish line, Marie admitted they need more. Especially for the final run course which will take part between 4 and 8 pm.
“Sign up on www.thelakesman.com in the volunteer section.”- added Marie.
