Kruijswijk abandons Giro d’Italia due to stomach problems

Steven kruijswijk

The captain of LottoNL-Jumbo has officially abandoned Giro d’Italia due to stomach problems. He was barely able to end the yesterday’s race. His condition made him to not even start the penultimate toady’s stage.

According to the Dutch media, the LottoNL-Jumbo captain’s unbearable stomach problems made him quit the race despite how much he wanted to continue it. Apparently, the pain started bothering him since Friday, but, they only got worse overnight.

Calculating the Friday’s stage, the Dutch captain was in 8th place and finished 10:40 down on Mikel Landa, Stage’s winner form Team Sky. Eventually, Kruijswijk dropped himself in the 10th place at 7:37.

The story behind the problem

The truth is, the Duchman wasn’t in his best physical condition since the start of the race, despite the fact issues fought back only this week. Apparently, he has started the race with a fractured rib caused in a crash at the Tour of Yorkshire.

When on the previous tour, he hit the ground during the stage four heading to Mount Etna, making him loss significant time on the following stages.

Despite this event, it seemed the Dutch rider was committed to give a great performance on Giro getting himself into the top 10.
