_The 2023 OnionMan Olympic Triathlon:
Onion Man is a grass roots, affordable, early season, low key Olympic distance triathlon in beautiful Walla Walla at the base of the Blue Mountains. This race is open to beginners looking to gain experience as well as elite athletes looking for a competitive, challenging race.
The race begins with a 2-loop 1.5 km swim in Bennington Lake. Water temperature is expected to be 65-68 degrees and wetsuits are allowed and recommended. The 40 km out and back scenic bike course heads out E. Isaacs Ave and Mill Creek Rd, up Five Mile hill, down Russell Creek Rd to a turn around and back with a short 1 mile up and back on Scenic Loop Rd then returning to lake. The 10 km run is a moderate out and back course with no major hills on a dirt trail, gravel road and bike path through Rooks Park and down to the turn around near Tausick Way.

The Course:
1.5 km Swim
The Triathlon begins at Bennington Lake where competitors will begin with a 2-loop 1.5 km swim. Water temperature is expected to be approximately 65-68 degrees. Wetsuits will be allowed and are recommended.
40 km Bike
The bike course will be an out and back scenic ride. Bikers will head down Reservoir Rd. from the lake turning right on Tausick Way. Turn right again onto Campus Loop through the Walla Walla Community College campus to E. Isaacs Ave. There you will turn right on E. Isaacs Ave. which will become Mill Creek Rd. Bear right onto Five Mile Road and continue straight down Russell Creek Rd to turn around point at Berney Drive. Proceed back on Russell Creek Rd, turning right for a short 1 mile up and back on Scenic Loop Rd., then right back onto Five Mile Rd. and return the same direction you went out.
10 km Run
The run will be a moderate course on a dirt trail, gravel road and the bike path through Rooks Park down to the turn around point near Tausick Way returning along the same route with no major hills.
