Tri Greenville is a second year, early season event centered on beautiful Baldwin Lake in Greenville, Michigan. This sprint distance event is perfect for triathlon beginners, yet challenging enough for the experienced triathlete.
Tri Greenville includes two events: an adult sprint triathlon that includes a team division; and a kids event with U15 and U10 divisions. Both events are largely visible to spectators from a single, elevated viewpoint along the Fred Meijer Flat River Trail.
Greenvilles Baldwin Lake is located in a natural depression making it a peaceful, somewhat sheltered area with two other lakes sharing the low area. The transition and swim are located at the Baldwin Lake Beach, the adult bike portion leaves the Lake area, but the kid's bike portion and all event run portions use the flat roads along the shoreline. The secluded nature of the venue also limits the amount of available space so there is a participant limit of 400 in each event.
The transition area is located in the parking lot of the Baldwin Lake Beach. The Beach features a changing room (no showers available), portable rest rooms, drinking water, vending and universal access to the water.
The swim portion for all events and divisions starts and ends on the Baldwin Lake Beach. The water of Baldwin Lake has good visibility of approximately 5-10 feet and will typically be around 70F on race day. The depth of the lake on the adult course will be approximately 15 feet, but the kids event will be all shallow water along the beach with a sandy bottom.
The adult bike ride will leave the lake area and follow roads that will be open to traffic. All turns will be to the right and there is generally a shoulder on the higher volume portions of the route. Police support is included to enhance participant safety and limit traffic speed. The terrain is moderately hilly with a long uphill near mile 10 and a steep descent returning to Baldwin Lake that will require good brakes.
The kid's bike ride stays on the closed roads along the Baldwin Lake shoreline, with an exception of approximately 1.5 miles of the U15 route that makes use of some open road with police support and the Fred Meijer Flat River Trail.
The run portion is a flat, fast loop along the shoreline of Baldwin Lake on roads closed to traffic for all divisions. The adult course also follows the shoreline of Manoka Lake and a brief "lake-less" out-and-back with a moderate hill thrown in for good measure.
To Baldwin Lake Beach (inaccessible on race day, see the website for specific event parking details):
From the west (US 131 exit 101): Follow M-57 east approximately 18 miles into Greenville. Baldwin Lake Beach is on Baldwin Lake Drive approximately 0.25 miles from Marvel Drive.
From the east (US 127 exit 109 or M 66): Follow M-57 west approximately 35 miles (9 miles from M66) into Greenville. Proceed to Baldwin Street (6 blocks past the downtown traffic light, with a brown apartment building on the far left corner) and turn left; drive south two blocks to the stop sign at Judd Street; turn right and drive to stop at Marvel Drive; turn left and drive along Marvel Drive to Baldwin Lake Drive and stay right along the shoreline.
