Van Der Poel takes Superprestige Gieten’s victory as Van Aert takes second place

Beobank-Correndon’s rider, Mathieu van der Poel has just won the opening round at the Superprestige in Gieten.

His impressive performance during the final laps gave him a well-deserved victory as World Champion, Wout Van Aert, Van Der Poel’s main rival, was able to finish the race only 15 seconds behind.

Third place went to Laurens Sweeck, Era-Circus’s rider who finished 27 seconds later from first place.

Despite his obvious shape and balanced, well-thought performance which made him take the charge of the race on the fourth lap, he still wasn’t able to keep the first position to make it the second victory this week after the one in Neerpelt on Saturday.

Meanwhile, during the final laps of the race, Van Aert had to go into some minor troubles. When just entering into the seventh lap, he had to unclip on a tight muddy corner.

Nonetheless, his great shape kept him fighting for the first place. Sadly, he ended up only a few seconds behind Van Der Poel who surpassed him only a few kilometers until the finish line.
