This may be one of the fastest sprint distance courses in the USAT Mideast Region. 2010 USAT DU and Tri Champion Kaleb VanOrt went 49:03 in 2010 for the OA win. 5 other regional hotshots went sub :60. This is a well marked, monitored, and supported event with more than 7 dozen local volunteers assisting with the course along with water safety and Sheriff's Department units from two counties.

Course Information:

2010 :

  • The 400 yard swim is a triangle in Portage Lake with the swim start and exit points approximately 30 yards from the transition area. 
  •  Transition is sited in a lawn area adjoining the resort clubhouse.  The bike course is 11.75 miles with hardly a noticeable elevation change the entire route. 
  •  The back side of the course has several sweeping turns. The run course takes off for just shy of two miles in an opening loop to the north and west of the transition area going through the resort on mostly paved road but includes a couple short sections of grass and gravel road. The run then comes back right alongside the transition area and then out to the south and west for the final loop of just over one mile.
  •  The course makes for exciting spectating with the finish line adjoining the big tent next to the transition area.  More than 7 dozen local volunteers help with course monitoring and support along with representatives from two county Sheriff's Departments and a Sheriff's dive team. 
  •  There is minimal traffic on the bike course and no traffic along the run course which is totally within the resort grounds.
