Tri Up North Triathlon is a paddle, bike, run triathlon in Frankfort, Michigan. Located on Betsie Bay and the Western shore of Lake Michigan, Frankfort is the perfect location for a triathlon. 2015 is the inaugural year for this event which is specifically geared toward beginners and those looking for a little motivation to become more active. In the future, we expect to expand the event to offer a team relay and a competitive course for experienced athletes. Our goal is to engage young people, families and individuals to make healthy choices and live an active lifestyle so everyone can enjoy all that Northern Michigan has to offer.

The weekend of the Tri Up North Triathlon provides a great opportunity for both locals and visitors to enjoy an athletic challenge and then relax and soak in Northern Michigan. Early fall offers wonderful weather, gorgeous scenery and an easy going pace. With Frankfort as your home base for the weekend, you 're in one of the most picturesque harbor towns; on M22, one of Michigan's most famous roads; and right at the edge of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. After the tri, you can visit Frankfort's culinary exposition, Taste of Benzie, for a sampling of all the area has to offer, or you can set off to explore Frankfort and the other beautiful nearby communities.

There's no better way to get the "Up North" feel than making September 12 your weekend to Tri Up North!

Course Information:

The bike portion of the event starts at the Frankfort Open Space and travels along the Betsie Valley Trail to the East and South. This is a six (6) mile out and back course so you will traverse the same areas throughout the stage. The course is quite flat, with two bridges over the Betsie River and only one road crossing. Due to the out & back format the rules of the road must be strictly followed and all travel must be to the right hand side of the lane. Overtaking will only occur when there is no oncoming traffic. When you return to Frankfort you will be directed toward the transition area to rack your bike in your assigned area.

The paddle portion of the event starts at the Frankfort boat launch and occurs in the sheltered waters of Betsie Bay. Dependent on the weather conditions and other factors this will be a loop course, in the event that the course changes from the one shown, notification will occur at the racer meeting on race day. This is a one & one half (1.5) mile paddle. At the conclusion of the stage you will exit the water at the same location you started and with the assistance of the course workers place your watercraft in your assigned area.

The run portion of the event starts at the Frankfort Open Space and travels along the Betsie Valley Trail to the East and South. This is a three (3) mile out and back course so you will traverse the same areas throughout the stage. The course is quite flat, with two bridges over the Betsie River and two road crossings. Due to the out & back format the rules of the road must be strictly followed and all travel must be to the right hand side of the lane. Overtaking will only occur when there is no oncoming traffic.
