Course Info: This is the 3rd annual YMCA of the Northwoods Indoor Triathlon. All indoors, this triathlon is great for beginners and still a challenge for more experienced triathletes. The swim takes places in the 25 yard pool, the bike portion in our new cycling room, and the run on the treadmills in our newly expanded Wellness Center.
More: There is a time limit on each event, and for those participants who do not finish the distance in that time, the distance they do finish will be recorded. Ranking will be based on fastest time first, then on most distance covered
Directions To Race: The YMCA of the Northwoods in Rhinelander is located on Hwy 17, just North of the intersection with Hwy C.

  • The run course is a 1.5 mile out and back scenic run, which is flat in the beginning and progresses into rolling hills.
  • The 17 mile balloon shaped bike route has it all; flat straight sections, downhill cruises, rolling hills and a few lung busting climbs.

  • Swimming: The 1/8th mile swim takes place in Spencer Lake, Waupaca Wisconsin. Swimmers will begin in 2 minutes waves. Waves will proceed with an order derived from registration survey. The course will follow the coast line to avoid deep waters. Lifeguards will be present if needed for assistance.
  • Cycling: Athletes need to be sure and have their helmet on as they walk their bikes to the end of the transition area to start the cycling course. The 15 mile course is a challenging clockwise pattern with some rolling hills on beautiful country roads near the Hartman State Park. Course marshals will be identifying all major turns and intersections.
  • Running: After completing the bike course, triathletes will park their bike in the transition area and begin the run. The 3 mile run segment is mostly flat relatively near the campgrounds and includes some residential streets. A few short stretches of County Rd. E will be well monitored.

  • The swim will take place in Lake Neshonoc.
  • Sprint Distance 17-mile bike course is comprised of rolling hills and one challenging uphill climb through the scenic hills and farmland of the 7 Rivers Region.
  • The International distance bike is a very challenging 26-mile course for experienced riders comprising rolling hills and two climbs.
  • An out and back course for both distances with the International distance athletes making two loops. The run course is a flat course on sidewalks, paved and gravel roads.
    Directions To Race: From I90 take the CR-C exit- exit number 12- toward WEST SALEM. Turn NORTH onto NESHONOC RD/CR C. Turn left on Garland Street, one block, right on Mark St. to Hamlin St. Right on Leonard Street to Highway 16.Turn right on Highway 16 and Swarthout Park will be on the right side of Highway 16. Parking will be at the West Salem High School at 405 E Hamlin.

  • Swim: Both races will take place in a crystal clear quarry and wet suits will be allowed.
  • The Olympic distance race will be two loops with the swimmers exiting the water, crossing over a timing mat, and re-entering the water between the two loops
  • Bike: The sprint distance bike will be an out and back 11 mile race over hilly terrain.
  • The Olympic distance bike will include two loops in a very hilly and challenging terrain. Much of the bike course will utilize portions of the Ironman Wisconsin course as well as the old USCF WI State Road Championship course.
  • Run: The Sprint run will be one loop with an out and back section over a slightly rolling terrain.
  • The Olympic distance 10K will be three loops over a slightly rolling terrain.

  • The Sprint distance race is the Badger States Games Championship Race that welcomes competitors from any state. Age Group awards will be rpesented at the post-race Awards Ceremony.

The course will be rectangular in nature and will be patrolled and monitored by certified guards as per USAT regulations. There will be 5 minute time gaps between wave starts to facilitate ease of movement to and through the transition area. Different colored buoys will differentiate between Olympic and Sprint distances.
  • Bike: The one-lap course will be on gently rolling to hilly terrain in the scenic and predominantly rural countryside to the southwest of the park. A fluid station will be at the 20K point. Marshals will monitor the course for illegal drafting. Helmets are required as per ANSI and USAT standards.
  • Run: The course will be completely in the state park on primarily off-road wooded and field terrain. The scenic network of grassy trails varies from flat to slightly undulating. Fluid stations will be available every 1.5 miles. The course is 3.1 miles in length — 1 lap for Sprint distance and 2 laps for Olympic distance
    More: Transition Area: All stages will start and finish in the one transition area which is 50 feet from the swim finish. The area will be fenced and access allowed only to competitors before, during and after the race. Transition area opens at 5:00 am.

  • From Chicago Option 1: Take I-90 northwest to the Rt. 47 exit (8 miles west of Elgin); proceed north 27 miles to the Wisconsin border where Rt.47 becomes Rt.120; proceed north on 120 till it becomes Cty Rd BB, turn right on Cty BB and continue 0.6 mile to Big Foot Beach and park entrance is on the right.
  • From Chicago Option 2: Take US Hwy 12 northwest from Chicago all the way to the Hwy 50 exit in Lake Geneva; proceed west 1.5 miles to downtown; turn left on Broad Street which becomes lakeshore Dr and proceed south about 2 miles to the state park across from Big Foot Beach.
  • From Madison: Take I-90 south to Janesville; exit Hwy 14 southeast to Walworth; proceed east on County B/BB from downtown Walworth all the way to Big Foot Beach State Park which is on the right.
  • From Milwaukee: Take I-43 southwest and exit at WI Rt.120 south (2nd East Troy exit); proceed south on Rt. 120 about 12 miles to Lake Geneva through downtown which becomes Broad Street which becomes lakeshore Dr and proceed south about 2 miles to the state park across from Big Foot Beach.

  • Swim: The point-to-point swim will be in Lake Pewaukee located downtown Pewaukee. A buoy line will be available to rest on if needed and will serve as a guide for the finish point, which will have a huge balloon arch. Wetsuits are allowed
  • Transition #1: The transition area will be on Wisconsin Avenue, which will be closed off for the event and very close to where the swim out is. This is in front of Transition Cycle. ONLY ONE transition and there will be an area to wash off feet.
  • Bike: The bike course heads out of downtown through quiet neighborhoods that surround the Pewaukee. Then it enters country roads with some hills circling the lake.
  • Transition #2: Same as #1
  • Run: The run will continue in the opposite direction where the bike route ends and runs through the residential streets of Pewaukee. It begins by following the Lake Shore and then circles around the high school and winds back down which is a continuous downhill.

    Course Info: Race across 2 miles of beautiful and mighty Lake Superior straight to Madeline Island. Start - on beach with immediate entry into the water. Finish - crossing a buoy line in waist deep water. There will be one large buoy at the halfway mark but it will be up to the swimmer to judge the winds and currents of Lake Superior to choose the best course.
    More: Swimming to the island has been a storied feat around Bayfield for decades. Starting with the Ojibwa, individuals of certain skill and daring have swum across the channel to LaPointe - Madeline Island. In 2006, the Friends of the Recreation Center sponsored a community swim where 23 of 24 people made it across on a flat and sunny day, raising $6000 for the local swimming pool. In 2007, the Friends are expanding the event to feature both a community swim and a race. The fastest known time from shore to shore is 47:20.
    Directions: Take Hwy 13 into Bayfield and follow signs to the Madeline Island Ferry dock. The race starts next to the ferry dock.
