 TIMELINE

RACE DAY: July 16, 2022

5:30am–7:30am:

Race Day Packet Pick up. Please do your best to come Thursday, but if you can’t, we will have VERY limited packet pick up on race morning at the start line. Please plan on arriving early to avoid lines.

PLEASE remember that USA Triathlon REQUIRES that you must show photo ID at packet pickup and your USAT membership card (if you have one).

You may NOT have someone else pick up your packet for you. We love you, but USAT wins on this one. If you forget yours in the car, you will need to go back and get it.

*Relay teams: your entire team must be present before your packet will be issued.

NO MORE SHUTTLES!

Athletes & Spectators can park at the race venue! No shuttles this year.  HOWEVER, for safety reasons, we will close the parking area when the races begin at 7am.

KNOW THE COURSE!

The Echo Triathlon course is pretty easy to understand. However, we have made some changes to the swim and run courses this year.  Detailed maps will be coming soon. We think you'll LOVE the changes!

THE "Zone 3 Wetsuit" SWIM

The expected water temp in early July is between 65-74º.

At the swim start, please look for the signs for average swim paces per 100 yards and seed yourself according to your swimming ability. From here we will be conducting a rolling start.

What does this mean? We will funnel athletes through a chute, approximately 10 feet wide, into the water, 6 at a time. Once you cross the timing mat, your race time starts.

Why the rolling start? If everyone seeds themselves correctly, it’s safer, reduces congestion, and athletes can start together with friends and family members regardless of age/gender.  Plus it provides natural "social distancing" as the race begins.

Swimmers will head west  in a rectangular, counter-clockwise manner, and will exit the water to the transition area. (1 loop for sprint distance, 2 loops for Intermediate(olympic) distance).

If you find yourself in need of support  while in the water, simply wave your hand/ arms or  swim to the nearest support team member. You may hold on to any support vessel without penalty as long as there is no forward movement.

You will be provided a swim cap which must be worn during the swim.

THE BIKE

Out and Back Courses for both Sprint and Intermediate.

Use caution and stay in control at all times. Sprint distance cyclists will head left (North) out of the transition area, on rolling roads, pass Echo Dam, under I-80, and right on Echo Canyon Road (northeast), parallel to the Interstate, climbing at approx 1 to 1.5% incline. Both the Sprint and Intermediate distance turn around points are on Echo Canyon Road.  Be careful of a few potholes on Echo Canyon Road.

After the turn around, you will head back to transition to begin the run.

NOTE: There are NO aid stations on the bike course. Please have at least 2 bottles of water on your bike before heading out.

THE RUN

NEW RUN COURSE!

Both the Sprint and Intermediate run courses are out and back.

Athletes will exit transition and run SOUTH along the historic Rail Trail.  This trail is flat and packed dirt, paralleling Echo Reservoir.

Aid stations will be at approximately every mile. Each aid station will have water, electrolyte replacement, high fives and music.

After you finish, timers will display results on the results board.
