2021 Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge - Winter Edition:
The Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge - Winter Edition is Wisconsin’s only winter adventure race. Soloists and teams of 2-4 members will run, bike, and snowshoe their way through a beautiful wintry course using a map and compass to find the way. Team members must stick together throughout the duration of the race. With route choices and obstacles to test your team’s physical strength and mental resolve, this winter race will be fun for beginners and seasoned athletes alike, bringing a new dimension to adventure racing!
This race will be held regardless of snow conditions. Fat tire bikes may be used but are NOT required, as the biking portions of the race will take place on roads and plowed bike & pedestrian trails. Snowshoes are only required for the snowshoe section (optional for other sections) and may be rented by indicating so during registration.
COVID ADAPTATIONS Field limited. Each team will be assigned a start time 2 minutes apart between 9 am and 1 pm (staggered orienteering start) to reduce congestion at check-in. You’ll be able to complete the course in any order, allowing for social distancing of teams on the race course. You may even race solo! Virtual pre-race meeting Contactless check-in and packet pick-up Practice social distancing (minimum of 6 feet except for teammates) Wear masks at all times except when racing Racers are responsible for bringing their own food and water for the event No post-race meal or gathering NEW TO ADVENTURE RACING? First, welcome to the adventure racing community! Since this is Wisconsin’s only winter adventure race, nearly every team will be new to winter adventure racing. Just like the Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge 3-hour course, the Winter Edition is designed to be beginner-friendly and also provide a physical challenge to seasoned racers. We will also hold a virtual navigation clinic prior to the race to help those new to orienteering.
