Kalamazoo County’s, Coldbrook County Park is the scene for this year’s 35th Seahorse Triathlon and Duathlon, which has been the state’s big season opener to kick off another great year of multi-sport.

Plenty of lodging opportunities between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, as well as both modern and rustic camping available at the park. Sleep in, wake up and be 800m from the transition area. The swim is in a small clear lake with two loops for the Olympic distance athletes. The transition area, finish line and post race festivities are all located in the back of the park, closed to traffic.

The bike course is a great all right turn affair with one short climb and again two loops for the Olympic distance. The run is entirely enclosed inside the park with a half cross country, half pavement course. A great course that will keep you motivated and pushing as you can hear the finish line from almost every spot on the course. A few short uphill and downhill sections as well.

Course Information:

The Seahorse Challenge has remained almost unchanged over the years . The lake is small, so it requires a 2 loop swim for the long course. The venue is located in the back of the park, away from everything, which has the swim up chute, bike in/out, and run in/out along with the finish all serviced via one road closed to traffic.

The bike course has traditionally had some pretty fast times even though it is the first race of the year. The tree lined, smooth paved roads. There is one short, out of your saddle climb about 30m long 5k from the finish; but other than that, it is an on your aerobars course, 2 loops for the long course athletes.

The run is a mixture of everything: groomed trail, grass, gravel road and regular road. Pretty fast as well, shaded the entire way. 2 loops for long course on the run as well. The entire run course is rolling and if raining could be a little slick in some areas when going off the road and onto a short trail section.
