Please come and join us for the 1st Annual Methow Mountain Off-Road Duathlon, which will be held at the iconic Sun Mountain resort on the MVSTA trail system as a fundraiser for the international disaster relief non-profit PROViDE.

The race will be held in November to catch the end of fall and the beginning of winter. Participants will need to be ready for any weather condition; snow, rain or shine. The course will meander through aspen and pine forests above Patterson Lake, starting and ending at the Chickadee trailhead in the beautiful Methow Valley.

All profits from the race with will be donated to the international disaster relief organization PROViDE, which seeks to offer long-term ecological solutions to stimulate struggling economies in areas of developing nations recovering from disaster.  PROViDE is hard at work in both Haiti and Sri Lanka and will use the funds raised from the race in order to complete community development projects across the countryof  Haiti. Course Information:

The course will start with a short 1km run down to Patterson Lake where the bikes will be staged to start the bike portion of the race on the Wimthrop Trail, the course will continue north on the Black Bear trail connect to the Fox Loop for a descent down Little Wolf Creek Road. Racers will continue on the Overland trail and begin the climb up Thompson Ridge Road. After a tough climb racers will slalom down the single-track on Petes Dragon and the Lower Inside Passage trails connecting back to Thompson Ridge Road and passing Chickadee Trailhead parking lot down Patterson Lake Road for a second loop the route above for a TOTAL of 40 KM of biking.  After bikers complete the second loop they will stop short at the Chickadee parking lot to drop their bikes and begin the running portion of the race down Patterson Lake Road cutting south through the Patterson Cabins parking lot connecting to Patterson Lake Trail for grand views over looking the lake. Racers will then climb west up Radar Creek Trail to Criss-Cross passing over Thompson Ridge Road  back up Yellowjacket for the final leg the down Rodeo Trail to finish at the shelter at Chickadee Trail head for keg beer, pizza and celebration. The TOTAL trail run will be 10km.

Directions:

Driving Directions to the Methow Valley:
If you're coming from Seattle/Bellingham/Vancouver you'll probably take Hwy 20(North Cascades Hwy) East from I-5 to get to Winthrop.
If you're coming from Tacoma or South of there (Olympia/Portland/Etc.) you'll probably want to take Hwy 18 East to I-90 and go over Snoqualmie Pass, Blewett Pass (Hwy 97) and follow the Columbia River North to the Methow Valley which means you'll get to Sun Mountain via Twisp(but you can always go over the North Cascades Hwy instead if you want but you risk hitting Seattle traffic).
If you're coming from anywhere East of the mountains (Eastern BC, Spokane, Tri-cities, ID, MT, Yakima, Ellensburg, Wenatchee, etc.) you'll get to Sun Mountain via Twisp.

Driving directions from Winthrop:
From the four-way stop sign in downtown Winthrop go east on hwy 20 about a half mile and turn right after crossing the bridge onto twin lakes rd. follow twin lakes road about 3 miles to Patterson Lake rd and turn right. follow Patterson Lake rd about 5 1/4 miles to Chickadee trailhead/Thompson ridge rd and turn left twice into the parking lot.  Allow 20-25 minutes for drive time and watch out for deer!
Driving directions from Twisp:
From Twisp river pub in downtown Twisp head west on hwy 20 for about 5.5 miles and turn left onto twin lakes rd. follow twin lakes about 2 miles and turn left onto Patterson lake rd. follow Patterson lake rd about 5 1/4 miles to Chickadee trailhead/Thompson ridge rd and turn left twice into the parking lot. Allow 25-30 minutes for drive time and watch out for deer!

Donation to Charity: All profits from entry fees will be given to the international non-profit PROViDE for project support and operational costs. PROViDE has worked in both Haiti and Sri Lanka to offer assistance in long-term disaster relief recovery.

The Director, Kris Young, will be hosting a presentation about PROViDE and its work and the state of the nations the organization works in. Please join us the night before the race at 7pm at the local Grange in Twisp to hear more and enjoy a free soup dinner.
