_ The 2018 Couch to 5K:
Description
This training program aims to prepare you slowly and painlessly to run a 5K race. Its secret is the gentle introduction to getting the body moving, starting off alternating between walking and running small distances, and slowly building up until you're ready to run 5 kilometers or 30 minutes non-stop. At the end of the course, the group will run the Hoot Hoot Hustle 5k on Saturday, September 29 at 10:00 am. Separate fee for the 5K required. Couch to 5K shirt included to wear to the race! Ages 18+
Running Coach: Stefanie Spohn
I discovered my love for running four years after the loss of our son. I signed up for a couch to 5k program several months after my second daughter was born as a way to relieve stress, incorporate some exercise into my life, and lose that extra baby weight. What I was not expecting, was how positively running was going to impact my life. After my very first run, I felt a sense of accomplishment. As I continued throughout the program, I started to feel my overall mood and energy change. After a 12 week program, I completed my first 5k race. I had such a ?runner?s-high? after that race that I could not wait to sign up for another one. Fast forward three years later and I have completed seven 5ks, three 10ks, two 8ks, five half marathons, and four sprint triathlons. I?m not the fastest person on the course, but I am consistent with my training which has led to an improved running form and race times. I also believe this sets a great example for my two little girls, showing them they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. And wouldn't you know it; they have completed several races themselves at the young ages of 3 and 5.
