The Great Northern Race
Join us in 2011 for the second Kuparisaari Triathlon, the only half iron distance triathlon in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Enjoy the calm, inland waters of Lac La Belle for a 1.2mile swim. Climb the rolling hills of the Keweenaw on the 56 mile, single-lap bike course, and take in the beautiful views from the shoreline of Lake Superior during the half marathon run. This race will be a challenge even for experienced triathletes, but offers treasures unlike any other race you've done.
The Kuparisaari Triathlon will take place on August 14, 2011. The Keweenaw brings racers the low-traffic, laid-back "Yooper" lifestyle of the Upper Peninsula. Age group prize awards of locally made, hand-crafted prizes will be issued after the event. All athletes will receive a custom race shirt and finisher's award. Food, including freshly baked pasties, will be available at the finish line.
A portion of the proceeds from the race will be donated to charities that focus on maintaining the natural beauty of the Keweenaw.
