2011 Peregrine Charities Triathlon:

  • Proceeds of this event will benefit Peregrine Charities, supporting medical research for rare pediatric diseases and providing assistance with children's hospitalization and medical treatment.
  • $30 of your registration fee is tax-deductible.
  • Peregrine Charities grants funds to Eastern Iowa hospitals to assist with the care of children and to fund ground-breaking research investigating origins, treatments, and cures for rare childhood diseases.
  • The ultimate goal is to provide children with comfort, dignity, and hope during difficult times.
  • Course Information:


    Swim:
  • This course has an out-and-back swim course that enters and exits the water on a boat ramp.
  • Distances are 1500 meters for the Olympic and 500 meters for the Sprint.  
  • Water temperature at George Wyth Lake is usually in the 70's in September.  
  • Wet-suits are advised.
  • Water quality in George Wyth Lake will be tested for safety several times in the months and weeks leading up to the race.
  • If water quality is deemed to be unsafe for race day, race will be a run-bike-run duathlon.  
  • Athletes will be notified of any changes as soon as possible after determination is made.

    Bike:
  • The bike course is a loop on scenic rural roads.  
  • Distances are 40 kilometers (24.9 miles) for the Olympic and 15.8 miles for the Sprint.  
  • The course includes turns, curves, train crossings, and will be open to traffic.  
  • Areas requiring greater caution will be staffed by police personnel and/or volunteers.  
  • An aid station will be located mid-way through the course.
  • Road or trail hazards will be identified, but caution is advised throughout the course.
  • ANSI-approved helmets are required of all participants.
  • At the race expo on Saturday, September 24, Bike Tech will inspect your bike for USAT compliance and will install your bike number.

    Run:
  • Out-and-back run on a park road and paved trail through scenic George Wyth State Park.  
  • Distances are 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) in the Olympic distance and 3 miles in the Sprint.  
  • The park road portion of the course will be open to vehicle traffic.
  • There will be five aid stations along the course with water and sports drink.

    Transition Area:
  • The transition area is no more than 30 feet from the water's edge.  
  • An 8 foot chain-link construction fence marks the perimeter of the transition area.

    George Wyth State Park is located off Highway 218 within the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metropolitan area in Northeast Iowa.  
  • Take Highway 218 to Exit 185 and follow signs to the park.  
  • Parking will be clearly marked; please do not park on the grass.  
  • Check-in, transition area, and race start will take place at George Wyth Lake.
