The ICE Breaker Triathlon was first held in 2000 as part of the TBF Training Triathlon Class. In 2002 the event was opened to the public and is now in its 15th year, known as the best way to start your Triathlon racing season!
2016 Race Features
The Swim for the ICE Breaker Triathlon and Ice Breaker Dash Triathlon will both take place at Folsom Lake. The run course for the ICE Breaker Triathlon and the Super Sprint ICE Breaker Dash Triathlon and Duathlon will be great for a smoother and easier finish to your races.
The Ice Breaker Dash is a super sprint course perfect for first-timers. Included for each athlete is an ICE BREAKER tech-tee race shirt, swim cap, athlete goody bag, hot post race meal and free athlete massage. Awards are for 1st through 5th place in each age group/category for the ICE Breaker Triathlon and 1st through 3rd place in the Ice Breaker Dash.

Relay Teams
Relay Teams consist of one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner. Entry fee includes three race shirts, goody bags and post race meals. Awards will be first overall in Male, Female and Coed divisions for ICE Breaker Triathlon only.
Packet Pick Up Information
Race packets will be available race morning from 6:30 am to 9 am at the race site.
Refund and Transfer Information
TBF Racing has a No Refund policy on all of our events. A Refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus a $25 processing fee. Credits are not given during race week. Transfers are allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There is a $25 transfer fee. Transfers are not allowed during race week. ALL TBF Racing events are held Rain or Shine.

Our Race for FREE Athlete Volunteer Program offers a chance to get involved with multi-sport events, have fun, and earn a $40 TBF Racing Volunteer voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events this year. Each volunteer shift is 4 hours. We ask volunteers to reserve a volunteer position at any of our events by emailing Volunteer Director [email protected] as our volunteer positions will fill up quickly.

Race Day Schedule:
Start Times
ICE Breaker Dash Triathlon and Duathlon - 8 am
400 yard or 2 mile run - 6.5 mile bike - 2 mile run
ICE Breaker Triathlon - 9 am
.5 mile swim - 13 mile bike - 4 mile run
Swim - The race starts from Granite Beach in Folsom Lake with a .5 mile swim from the beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course marked by the large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be approximately 62-65 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended. The swim will exit the lake and head up the beach to the transition area located in the parking area.
Bike - The 13-mile bike course is a TWO-LAP course located entirely within the park on roads closed to traffic. The bike course is windy and has several sharp small hills and tight turns. ICE Breaker Dash Super Sprint Triathlons and Duathletes will do ONLY One-Lap for the 6.5 mile bike course.
It is STRONGLY recommended that you ride the course ahead of time. Caution is advised on several of the turns as they wind through the hills and oak trees that surround Folsom Lake. After the second loop you will return into the transition area. Course maps will be available on race morning at Registration. The Bike course will not have an aid station. Water and Clif Electrolyte Beverage, along with Clif Shot Energy gels will be available in the transition area.
Run - The 4-mile run course leaves transition and runs on single-track trails along the lake back towards Beal’s Point. The out and back course has 3 aid stations that will be stocked with water, Clif Beverage, and Clif Shot Energy gels. The finish is back at the start area at the Granite Beach.
The 2-mile run course leaves transition and runs on crushed granite path trails and single track trails combined with a little pavement before the aid station at the half-way point and then returns on similar terrain.
ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.
The Transition area will be on a first-come basis, with the exception of Reserved Bike Racks for TRI Clubs. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.
