The Sole Burner is an annual event for the American Cancer Society and has become the largest walk/run of its kind in Appleton, WI.
the Sole Burner began in 1983 wi 40 participants raising $4000. Throughout the years, the event has grown to be the Society's largest event of its in Wisconsin, exceeding the $360,000 goal in 2013 goal.
The Sole Burner is both a serious and social event. The event is designed to rally community support for the American Cancer Society, recognize cancer survivors, and promote the value of a 5K run or walk.
The event is also designed to raise money for the American Cancer Society programs of research, education, advocacy, and patient and family services.
It it is an event that is organized and staged by volunteers. Sponsor donations help cover expenses.
