•May is National Bike Month and, for the first time, Massachusetts residents (cyclists and non-cyclists alike) are urged to join the national effort by riding their bikes to work during the first ever Bay State Bike Week, May 11-17. And as gasoline prices skyrocket, even if the health benefits dont convince commuters to start cycling, soon the environmental and budget benefits alone will. Sponsored by MassCommute and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, there will be all sorts of ways for people to participate:

•Two Hundred-fifty-thousand Mile Pledge Last year we challenged Bay Staters to collectively bike 50,000 miles. You crushed our goal. This year, its your chance to collectively cycle more than 250,000 miles during National Bike Week, May 11-17. To participate, sign up at www.baystatebikeweek.org and tell us how many miles you (and/or your whole company) will bike that week .

•Bay State Bike Week Festival and Convoys: Friday, May 15th 7:00 10:00 a.m , Boston City Hall PlazaTalk about a grand entrance. Join a convoy and bike into Boston escorted by Bostons finest the Boston Police. Convoys of cyclists will be formed for rides in and out of Boston, Arlington, Newton, Cambridge and more providing a safe and fun way to commute to work and meet new friends. All convoys finish at City Hall Plaza where free food, fun and music greet all cyclists. Join a convoy or just come for the festival. Check www.baystatebikeweek.org.

•Mass Commute Commuter Challenge - Plus, there will be a friendly competition among Massachusetts companies: matched against like-sized businesses, companies can compete for prizes (including a NEW bike) and bragging rights. Check it out online at www.baystatebikeweek.org.
