Description:

2012 Heel & Crank Duathlon:

  • The Heel & Crank Duathlon is a very popular USAT Sanctioned duathlon in Alabama that is put on by the Team Rocket Triathlon Club.
  • This race is a beginner-friendly event as well as a good Super Sprint for the veterans.
  • The entire race is held within the confines of Cummings Research Park in Huntsville, with very little traffic, on smooth, 4-lane roads.

  • The Heel & Crank Duathlon raises money and awareness for ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease).
  • This charity was chosen because of the late Darin Kruse, one of our local triathletes and friend, who recently lost a 3-year battle with ALS.
  • Course Info:
    Run: (2.5 miles)
  • Run 1 is a one loop course.
  • The run course is marked with RED turn arrows.

    T-1:
  • You will then enter transition, go to your bike, run it to the mount line.
  • Then proceed from the race site in the exact direction you left on the first run.

    Bike: (10 miles)
  • The bike course is marked with BLACK turn arrows.
  • No drafting on the bike course.

    T-2:
  • Upon completion of the bike portion, you will enter transition (dismounting at the marked line).
  • Rack your bike in the exact same location, then head out on run 2.

    Run: (2.5 miles
  • Run #2 is the exact same course as the first run.
  • Upon returning from the final leg, you will loop around the transition area to the finish line.
  • Directions:
    From I-565:
  • Exit onto Rideout Road North/Research Park Blvd North.
  • Exit onto Old Madison Pike, heading West.
  • Turn North onto Voyager Way, Northrop Grumman Bldg will be immediately on your left.
  • This is located in Cummings Research Park West, and is just West of Bridge Street Town Centre.
  • Other Info:
    Awards will be given 3-deep in:
  • Overall, male and female
  • Age groups, male and female (5 year)
  • Clydesdale (male over 200 lbs)
  • Athena (female over 150 lbs)
  • PC (physically challenged)

    Awards will be given for First place only, in teams divisions: (teams can be two, or three person teams)
