- With a focus on youth specific races Rip Roar holds the highest level of youth specific safety concerns, and course precautions while also creating an atmosphere to encourage youth involvement at all ages and skill levels. The races are timed, while having a competitive element are in place to encourage youth to participate in the sport and have their best day ever!
By definition, RipRoar is exciting. It's loud, it's engaging, it's 'full of energy and vigor', it's the moment a child runs through our finish line, full of pride and accomplishment and unleashes their wild on the world. RipRoar is an X-Factor that our team brings to events. It is our passion to create moments of transformation for kids by creating a stage for them to shine. It's what we want to see more of in our communities and in the next generation.
Our Des Moines swim course takes place in the brand new Terra Lake. All athletes will complete just one lap of the swim course, that is adjusted between each race. Unlike other RipRoar swim courses, the depth of Terra Lake does not allow for athletes to touch. We have lots of extra kayaks and paddle boards around the course- remember it's NOT illegal to get assistance in the water.
The Des Moines bike course takes place on Pioneer Parkway, just outside of Terra Lake park. Seniors will complete 3 laps, Intermediates 2 laps, and Juniors one full lap before re-entering the park. No vehicular traffic will be allowed on the 4 lane boulevard, separated by wide grass medium which makes this course especially wide open, and great for spectating.
The run course utilizes the Terra Lake Park paved trails as well as small grass sections and is the most spectator friendly run course on the calendar. Parents can watch as Seniors complete two laps around the lake and intermediates complete 1. Juniors will run an amended out and back course before heading into the loudest finish line on the calendar.
