RipRoar Des Moines Kids Triathlon : Kids Race |
Triathlon : Distances Determined by Age |
- With a focus on youth specific races Rip Roar holds the highest level of youth specific safety concerns, and course precautions while also creating an atmosphere to encourage youth involvement at all ages and skill levels. The races are timed, while having a competitive element are in place to encourage youth to participate in the sport and have their best day ever!
By definition, RipRoar is exciting. It's loud, it's engaging, it's 'full of energy and vigor', it's the moment a child runs through our finish line, full of pride and accomplishment and unleashes their wild on the world. RipRoar is an X-Factor that our team brings to events. It is our passion to create moments of transformation for kids by creating a stage for them to shine. It's what we want to see more of in our communities and in the next generation.
The Swim:
Athletes start their day in the waters of Ashworth swimming pool where where they will take on 1, 2 or 4 lengths of the 50 meter swimming pool. The pool is tucked into the surrounding woods and will provide a perfect backdrop for the beginning of an epic day.
The Bike:
Don't be fooled by the slightly shorter than "normal" bike distances for this event, as this course might be the most challenging we've ever offered. Juniors will take on one lap of the bike course starting with a three quarter of a mile climb to the Des Moines Art Center's west entrance. It's smooth sailing on the way home however. Intermediates will complete two laps of the same course while seniors are challenged with a second, steeper hill on each of their three laps.
The Run:

It's possibly the most fun run course ever offered in youth triathlon and we can't wait to share it with you. Athletes in all divisions will enter the woods at the beginning of their course and will take on the challenge of single track trail running. Our senior and intermediate course offer 7 bridge crossings, a creek crossing and a whole dirt. If it rains, pack your old sneakers, because it's going to get muddy!
